Miami & South Florida Mid-Campaign Report: What Churches Accomplished in the First Half of 2024
"Ya hemos leído suficiente historia. Ahora hay que escribirla." We have read enough history. Now we have to write it.
That line opens Love Has No Limits' mid-campaign report from Miami and South Florida. Six months into a year-long effort, it captured the spirit of what churches, nonprofits and volunteers across the region were building together.
It started with leaders in the room
Before a single serve day, the campaign began by bringing leaders together. In October 2023, 550 senior leaders gathered for leadership meetings. In November, 302 leaders came to coordinator gatherings to plan how their churches and organizations would serve.
From those rooms came long-term commitments that go well beyond a single day:
- 101 organizations committed to addressing the needs of the child welfare system.
- 112 organizations committed to supporting families in crisis.
- 81 organizations committed to serving underserved communities.
Good Neighbor Days 2024
That spring, those commitments turned into action through Good Neighbor Days:
- 160+ Serve Centers opened across the region.
- 278 organizations partnered.
- More than 7,000 volunteers were projected to serve.
- $2,066,440 in goods was distributed.
- More than 725,000 pounds of food was delivered.
At Shenandoah Elementary in the heart of Little Havana, volunteers welcomed families and brought smiles to the kids. For many of them, serving was personal. "I grew up in Argentina, and we didn't really have a community that did this," one volunteer said. "So I really want to participate and be able to add some value." Another said, "Miami's not all glitz and glamour. There's so many people in need."
The response surprised even the organizers. One local leader said the volunteer turnout was overwhelming, to the point that they had to expand how many volunteers they could take, because people wanted to be involved in serving.
The added capacity made a measurable difference. One church normally served 400 to 500 mothers at its Mother's Day outreach. This year, with support from Love Has No Limits, it served 1,000. Families began arriving for food at 7 a.m., as soon as the team started setting up.
A home for every child
The campaign's child welfare initiative, A Home for Every Child, is working to change the foster care system from the inside, through local churches. By mid-2024, more than 100 churches had launched the initiative, reaching 52,200 people.
One of the most moving moments in the report came from a child talking about friends in foster care: "They go jumping around from family to family. I just hope that other people could adopt, just like they did."
How the year finished
The report promised that "the biggest impact is still yet to come this fall," and it was. By the end of 2024, 464 organizations had partnered across Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties. Together they served 73,470 families through 370 serve site activations, and 114 churches had committed to long-term partnership in the child welfare initiative.
